Adolescent Residential Program
Located in a rural setting just 35 minutes south of St. Louis, Missouri, Athena provides residential care to those in need at a price which they can afford. Our 16 bed facility serves adolescent boys with intensive treatment for a period of up to 60 days. All adolescents have their own room which is equipped with a private bathroom including shower, and a small sitting area for study and contemplation.
This program provides co-occurring treatment (substance abuse and psychiatric) to adolescent males aged 12-17. Criteria, program components, and exclusionary criteria are listed below:
Criteria:
Adolescents ages 12-17.
Males only.
Substance abuse/use, or
Substance abuse/use with psychiatric/behavioral issues
Legal involvement and court ordered into residential treatment.
Assessment must recommend residential treatment.
Program Components:
Individual Therapy provided by professional therapeutic staff.
Family Therapy provided by professional therapeutic staff (required for the adolescent to get home passes).
Therapeutic groups that promote healing and growth - examples include anger management, teen issues, conflict resolution, family issues, Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens, etc.
Academic Education provided by Hillsboro school district to ensure that the youth do not fall further behind in school.
Each client is assigned a Community Support Specialist (CSS) as a liaison between the client, family, school, and other involved parties.
Group Education (life-skills, alcohol and drug education, social skills, etc.).
Character Development.
Art Therapy.
Co-Occurring Therapy provided by professional therapeutic staff.
Exclusionary criteria:
1. Any youth who is actively homicidal or suicidal.
2. Any youth with an IQ below 70.
3. Any youth with sexual acting-out behaviors.
4. Any youth with a recent history of severe assaultive behaviors.
5. Any youth who has failed the Jefferson County Juvenile Drug Court Program.
