Residential Drug Treatment Program
Therapy and comprehensive treatment is based upon evidenced based practices and the disease concept of substance abuse. We know that substance abuse adversely affects the mind, body and spirit of the abuser. We also understand the significant impact it has on the family and significant others in the life of the abuser. While a client at Comtrea Athena Center, our clients’ strengths and limitations are professionally assessed. A fully individualized treatment plan is developed. The whole person is considered in the treatment plan process. Tools utilized to address the goals in treatment include the following: substance use and abuse education, individual and group therapy and psycho education; fitness, wellness and nutrition; meditation and stress management; life skills; relapse prevention; medication and illness management; family dynamics and much more. The skills learned are intended to apply supports, coping mechanisms and trigger recognition in their own practical setting, home, work or family life. The skills and tools are the first steps and are enhanced in outpatient treatment as well, for both the client and the family/significant others.

In addition to a fully comprehensive treatment program, clients will also have access outpatient psychiatric care; case management; and individual and group counseling through the Adult Division staff within the agency. Addiction is a family disease process and Comtrea, Inc. encourages families to be involved in treatment. Groups for psycho education and therapy are provided weekly in our South, High Ridge and Suburban offices for families. If clients will be receiving outpatient follow up outside the St. Louis metro area, Comtrea staff will assist them in arranging follow up recovery care for themselves and family treatment.
Those completing the program may transfer to outpatient programming in one of our locations near St. Louis or to a center located near their home with which we have developed a recovery plan.
